Industrial Training organized for B Tech Electrical third year Students in Dhanu Thermal Power Plant


Students of B Tech Electrical 3rd Year students got the opportunity to attend 10 days industrial training in 500 MW Reliance Thermal Power Plant, Dhanu Maharashtra from 21st Dec to 30th December 2017.

Dahanu Thermal Power Station (DTPS), consisting of two units of 250 MW, is one of the best power generation plants in the country, which commenced its commercial operations in January 1996. Recognized with innumerable awards, this power plant is known for its distinctive features that set it apart from others in terms of technological innovation, superior performance and continuous sustainability for a longer period. DTPS is located around 120 km north of Mumbai along Mumbai-Ahmedabad rail line.

The plants utilize a mix of Indian washed coal and imported coal as fuel. The general blending ratio is 80:20. The indigenous fuel is received from SECL (Korba) and also imported from various countries such as Indonesia and South Africa among others.
Dahanu Thermal Power Station has implemented integrated management systems (IMS) in its processes and is certified for quality management, environment management, occupational health and safety assessment studies, social accountability management, information security management, energy management and accreditation for DTPS coal testing laboratory.

In this training students were enlighten by the plant experts having experience more then 10 years.
Sessions were organized in such a way that during first half class sessions were scheduled and in the second half plant visit was scheduled, this way students got the opportunity to learn and implement the knowledge related to thermal power plant.
In classroom sessions following aspects of plant were covered:
1. Layout of Plant
2. Electrical Systems of Plant
3. Thermal Segment of Plant
4. Operational Procedures
5. Maintenance Procedures of various electrical Equipments
6. Safety Measures for handling electrical equipment.
7. Energy Efficiency and Energy Conservation.
8. Financial Management
9. Condition Monitoring of Electrical Equipments
10. Details of Control Room
