First GD Session For 5th Semester
Students
On 3rd November, Dept. of Electrical, Power & Energy conducted the
first GD session for the students of Electrical And Power System Engineering, 5th
semester students. This session was conducted as an attempt to familiarize
students with the selection process they will be facing in the placement drive.
The
session was conducted by the experienced faculty of Centre
for Professional Communication, viz. Ms Puja Khanna and Mrs Brahmleen Kaur Sabharwal. They focused on various methods of
participating in a GD with the help of basic models like PESTEL Model (Politics, Economic, Social,
Technology, Environment/ Ethics, Legal), OVP (Overall View Point), Carpenter
Model, to name a few. These methods can be used to elaborate the topic, make a
point and reach a consensus.
The practice topic of
the GD was “Who is more important, farmer, engineer or soldier?”. It was a
standing GD. Standing GDs are now preferred as they are more efficient and
participants are more focused and active and thus their overall productivity
increases. This session helped the students to understand various aspects of GD which includes not to convert the
GD into a debate, to assume various roles in the discussion, maybe that of an
initiator, facilitator or closer, to learn to listen, to broaden the boundary of
the discussion and reach a consensus at the end.
The Practice GD was an
important exercise which provided the students with a practical outlook of the
real world interview procedure and how to avoid being mass eliminated.
